37 miles of new trails

Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Brecksville, has planned to add new trails of 37 miles which is inclusive of 10 miles of mountain biking trail. This latest plan of the final trail management was released by the authorities of Cuyahoga National Park on Thursday. The plan is also inclusive of overnight camping areas and a water trail with launch of boats along the Cuyahoga counties, and the Cuyahoga river summit.

This document is known as the Environmental Impact statement or the Trail Management Plan. It mainly analyzed eight alternatives which had ranged from adding nothing to the addition of 65 miles of trail. The detailed report of 332 pages was under work since 2009. It updates the previous trail plan of the park the year 1985. In the year 2012, this park has been subject to public-comment and three of the public hearings.

The officials of the park preferred an option, which was the Alternative 5. It includes 12 interpretive short trails, 11 new trails for hiking, three links for residential neighboring area, two ski trails which are cross country and five trails which will be used as a connector. The plan is also inclusive of improving, adding, expanding or removing the trail parking lots, as per requirement.

The Officials of the Park are confident that the Alternative Number 5 is going to work the best to meet the needs of the park. It is a hybrid plan which has included good elements from all other alternatives.

At present, mountain biking is not being permitted on trails. But plans are on to allow the mountain biking sport on the eastern region, nearby Hines Hill and Boston Mills. The officials are also researching the possibility of adding a mountain biking trail on the west rim on the Buckeye Trail.

The Trail Management Plan aims to cover the management, expansion, restoration, operation of the trail organization and related facilities for the coming 5 years.

Evans to remain team leader

By the time Cadel Evans was having a tough time, battling his sickness with a virus and the poor performance, 23-year-old Tejay Van Garderen slowly made his own mark on the team. That was evident at the Pyrenees Mountains, where he rode free when Evans fell way behind in the race. With that he acquired the seventh position in the final time trial and won for himself the white jersey of best young rider and his overall rank numbered up to be 5th. All these have given Garderen high hopes for 2013. And it has already had a start at the Tour de San Luis where he stood second. But this does not mean that he would be handed the leadership of the team.

Cadel Evans is back in Europe to pump up his strength by competing at the Gran Premio di Lugano. Lately, this race is known to have become a cakewalk for Italian riders. Grand Tour stage and race winner Ivan Basso would also be seen participating here this weekend. If he can win this race then it would boost his confidence for the month of March when the Tirreno-Adratico would set off.

Tour de France this year is the main bull’s eye for Cadel Evans. Last year he was so unwell that he had to drop out of London Olympics. But he is determined to make up for that loss. That is evident from the way he secured the third position at the tour of Oman. The fact that he was sick last year is now history.

Currently all eyes are now on Cadel Evans whether he can really make a comeback of a lifetime at the tour de France among the hard tracks set this year.
